In the past month or so, I’ve acquired (crazy cheap via ebay) and scoured well over 100 back issues* of International Gymnast, ranging from 1980-2002, although mostly from 1990-2001. Hence, tons of updates have been made throughout the site.

*Of course, as any good gymn fan, I already had a large collection of back issues myself – I just don’t know where they are at the moment…

In the meantime, a provisional copy of the 2013-2016 FIG Code for WAG has been “leaked.” You can download a copy for yourself here. Plenty of interesting changes, including some adjustments in difficulty value for Named skills:

Vault

  • Chusovitina II (Hsp, layout Rudi) – lowered from 6.3 to 6.2
  • Produnova – 7.1 to 7.0
  • Amanar – 6.5 to 6.3
  • Cheng – 6.5 to 6.4

Bars

  • Shushunova – devalued from G to E

Floor

  • Popa jump – raised from B to C
  • Podkopayeva (Double front w. 1/2 out) – raised from E to F
  • Silivas (Double-double) + Chusovitina (Full-twisting double layout) – both raised from G to H!

Got a preview of some interesting new combos to be debuted at the American Cup this weekend, including:

Wieber on BB – Front handspring + Tuck full + FF; Side aerial + Side salto

Raisman on FX – Back layout 1.5 through to Double arabian + Punch front layout
Raisman has previously ended this pass w. a front tuck. While this change doesn’t add anything to her D-Score, word is she’s working on adding the front tuck to her Dos Santos (i.e., Piked double arabian) instead.

Still some details to smooth out, but content has all been transferred & all links have been checked.

Numerous updates have been made along the way, and will continue. I’ve got several half-written blog posts related to the main content of the site, for example, which will hopefully get finished reasonably soon.

So check it all out, leave feedback, make suggestions, share your expertise!

And welcome to WAG Firsts!

Currently working on transferring content from Google sites version of WAG Firsts and customizing this site. I briefly considered hosting the project completely independently, but decided WordPress was a good compromise between ease and flexibility.

Check back soon (not too soon! ;) ) for updates.
